Fundraising and planning for the Kevin Peare Memorial Skate Park in North Conway began in 2017 with Caren and Anna Peare to honor the memory of Kevin Peare, a Conway native who passed away that same year. Since then, the skate park’s Board of Directors and Committee have been diligently working to raise needed funds to construct the community asset.
Caren and Anna’s dream came one step closer to fruition when the nonprofit reached a $50,000 fundraising goal to qualify for a federal matching grant. That news came as a surprise when Caren appeared on Mt. Washington Valley Radio’s Magic 104 and WMWV 93.5 FM with Laura Lemieux, Settlers Green Marketing Director.
“We were so ecstatic when Settlers Green presented a $10,000 donation, and were totally surprised when she made the announcement on-air that MVSB made a tandem donation of $10,000 as well,” said Caren. “The community support this skate park has received is incredible and we are so thankful. We still have a few hurdles to cross, but we have all the pieces in place to be successful with this project.”
“MVSB is proud to support this important initiative that will offer youth in the Mount Washington Valley a safe space to skate board and be together with their peers,” said Brittany Hodge, MVSB Mortgage Loan Officer NMLS# 2387835.
The skate park will apply for the matching grant, and if it is awarded then construction is expected to commence on Hemlock Lane off the new recreation path near Walmart. The skate park is always fundraising and still needs additional funds to make this skate park possible. Go to goskate4kev.com to learn more about the project, view renderings or to donate.
