Bank Teller Apprenticeship Program Allows Pathway to Banking Career

Alyssa Richard, MVSB Bank Teller Apprentice

This summer, Alyssa Richard came across a job posting for the Bank Teller Apprenticeship Program for MVSB. Shortly after applying, she was selected for the program and began shadowing as a Teller Apprentice in the Bank’s Laconia office. She’s continues to work closely with her mentors and coworkers to gain banking experience as she aims to grow a career in the industry.

“I had never considered a career in banking before, but reading the description about paid on-site training and growth opportunities really intrigued me,” said Alyssa. “This program has helped me confidently start a new career path and has taught me a lot of valuable skills so far. Everyone here has been so kind and patient and it has been an amazing experience. I look forward to finishing my training and seeing where this opportunity takes me at the Bank.”

“We are excited to have Alyssa join the team,” said Susan Dagostino, MVSB Branch & Business Development Manager in Laconia. “A career in banking can be appealing – often offering great work-life balance, professional development and pride in supporting local communities. We regularly hear that the financial industry can be a little intimidating if you don’t have experience, but that is certainly not the case. All you need is enthusiasm for providing great service and willingness to learn. Even our company President, Marcus Weeks, started out as a student teller.”

The apprenticeship is offered through the Bank Teller Apprenticeship Program — the state’s first program of its kind, launched by ApprenticeshipNH in cooperation with the Community College System of New Hampshire. The program runs for one year and combines 2,000 hours of practical, on-the-job training with 148 hours of classroom learning provided by the American Banking Association, New Hampshire Mutual Bancorp and the Community College System WorkReadyNH Program.
