The public has spoken and Poppy has been named the winner of Merrimack County Savings Bank (The Merrimack) Dog Days of Summer contest. Poppy, a 3-year-old Black Labrador Retriever, received the most “likes” of the top five finalists on Instagram. As The Merrimack’s top dog of 2024, Poppy earned herself $500 and $500 to her local animal rescue nonprofit of choice, the Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire in Bedford.
“We’re amazed by all of the support for Poppy and she’s honored to be crowned winner of The Merrimack Dog Days,” said Emily Metzger, Poppy’s Owner. “This was a great opportunity to show off Poppy while giving back to a local animal shelter.”
“It was a pleasure meeting Poppy and Emily, and we’re grateful they campaigned on behalf of the Animal Rescue League of NH (ARLNH),” said Marianne Jones, CEO, ARLNH. “We also thank The Merrimack for their generosity in supporting our daily life-saving efforts for pets and people who care for them.”
To enter, participants shared photographs of their pet(s) wearing The Merrimack’s branded bandana. After a round of internal voting, the top five went up for public vote on The Merrimack’s official Instagram page (@merrimackstyle). Each vote helped campaign for a local animal rescue to receive a matching donation.
The remaining four finalists of the 3rd Annual Dog Days of Summer were:
- Wilson, the 16-year-old Chihuahua supporting Old Dogs Go to Helen in Epsom
- Guster, the 4-year-old Cavapoo supporting New Hampshire SPCA in Stratham
- Mishka, the 1-year-old Corgi supporting Changing Lives Equine Center in Hopkinton
- Bumbum, the 5-year-old Shiba Inu and Siberian Husky mix supporting Pope Memorial SPCA in Concord
